Notice to Parents and Staff:
Due to the seriousness of peanut allergies at Notre Dame School, we are not able to have any form of peanuts in the building. This includes sack lunches, snacks or any other item that contains peanuts such as peanut butter.
All snacks such as birthday treats brought into the school must be of the prepackaged type with nutrition labeling, so that the listing of ingredients is available.
To assist families, there will be a list of snacks that do not have peanuts or peanut products made available in handbook. . Non-food birthday treats are a wonderful option to consider – stickers, pencils, small tablets, or a new playground ball for the class to use are just a few of the options.
There is a product called “Sunbutter” available. It is sold at the local Fareway store (and I'm sure many other places as well), and it is located next to the peanut butter in their shelving. It is made from sunflower seeds – so no peanuts involved. However, it looks like peanut butter, and it tastes like peanut butter (I've tried it, and it's very good). This may be an alternative for families intending to send cold lunch to school with their children. Please label the outside of the sandwich container that the sandwich is made with Sunbutter.
Your cooperation in keeping all of our children safe is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Renee Cuvelier
Principal
